Flag Football
(Ages 3 through 8th Grade)

Flag football is one of the premier sports programs we offer at the Y. Each year, hundreds of boys and girls learn the fundamentals of the game in a way that reduces the risk of injury and helps ensure a positive experience for all.

The Y has joined with NFL Flag, the largest youth flag football league in the U.S. This partnership provides enhanced training opportunities for our volunteer coaches and a fun, dynamic experience for players that emphasizes the importance of leadership, fair play and teamwork. 

At the Y, participation in our Rookie league for preschoolers (ages 3-5) is FREE with a Family membership. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. We do not want cost to be a barrier for anyone who wants to play.

YMCA Metro Barnstormers 7v7 Football League
(Ages 13 through 18)

7v7 football is a high-energy, low-contact way to enjoy competitive football while honing your skills. This all-passing game is played on a 40-yard field, and scoring is allowed on both offense and defense. Our program emphasizes leadership, teamwork and fair play under the guidance of volunteer coaches. 

The league is divided into two classes: 15U and 18U. You can register as a team, or individual players can register as free agents to be placed on a team. Teams determine their own practice schedules. Games are played on Wednesday nights under the lights at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines.
